The internet was supposed to make Marshall McLuhan’s dream of a “global village” come true. To connect us all, and give us a worldview.
But, in reality, what Web 2.0 and the smartphone has done is turn us all into islands in a vast ocean, each of us living in our own worlds, reading what we like, hearing what sounds nice, and watching what pleases our eyes.
