The 15 best "committees" that were formed by Twitter folk, inspired by the Supreme Court
How the four-member "expert" panel on farm laws led to a burst of masti
The gameplan behind the Supreme Court’s “stay” on the new farm laws of the Narendra Modi government, and the appointment of a four-member committee of “experts” to sort out the impasse, is so gauche that it took next to no time for the protesting farmers to see through the charade.
A couple of them told The Telegraph newspaper (above):
“Jaankaar yahaan baithe hain ji (experts are sitting here).”
“SC should have appointed real experts from among us.”
Just last month, the SC had mooted a committee that included the well-known rural affairs journalist P. Sainath, members of the Bharatiya Kisan Union and others. So, the sudden about-turn on January 12, a day after slamming the Narendra Modi government, led to predictable conclusions.
It also didn’t take much time for newspapers to see that the SC-appointed committee comprised “experts” who had been batting for the government’s new laws, and most said so as much in today’s editions.
The two-pronged strategy, it seemed, was to buy time, break up the ongoing protests on the outskirts of Delhi, prevent an odious spectacle on Republic Day, and in the process push through the legislation under the seal and sign of the apex court.
The SC’s choice of the government’s supporters as members of the “expert” committee was so ham-handed that on Twitter, even before the morning papers had arrived, it led to a blaze of committees, all inspired by the SC’s commendable objectivity.
And finally, the chairman of a one-man committee.
